TRENTON, NJ.- In one of The State’s most contentious Congressional races that gained national attention, New Jersey State Senate Republican Leader, Tom Kean, Jr. won The State’s 7th District Congressional Seat. Beating incumbent Tom Malinowski, (D Rep-NJ), by nearly Three times the number of votes that Malinowski beat Kean by in The 2020 Election.
Malinowski conceded Wednesday morning, which prompted Kean, Jr. to issue a statement that said he was honored to be elected to New Jersey’s 7th District Congressional Seat.
“Throughout this district and throughout this nation, we have been given the opportunity to change the course of history,” Kean stated. Kean who is the son of Former Governor Tom Kean. Kean, Jr. also served twenty years in The New Jersey State Legislature.
In Malinowski’s concession, he said he is ” deeply grateful to the people of the 7th District for the honor of representing you, and I congratulate Congressman Elect Kean.” Malinowski the two term congressman pointed out how New Jersey Congressional Districts were redrawn before heading into the elections, hinting that he would have won if the District hadn’t been redrawn.
” While we did as well or better than in 2020 in communities I have represented these last four years, and I expected the results to tighten further as all votes are counted, the new district proved too much of a hurdle to overcome,” Malinowski further stated.
Two years ago, Malinowski beat Kean by one percentage point to win his second term. After The New Jersey State Independent Redistricting Commission redrew the lines, Malinowski had a not-so-friendly District to campaign in. The contentious race exhibited all the ingredients that fired up campaigns across the nation in the midterms, including disputes over Abortion, Inflation , and potential shortages.
