62-YEAR-OLD RUTHERFORD WOMAN CHARGE IN CONNECTION WITH FEBRUARY 8, 2024 APARTMENT FIRE

RUTHERFORD, NJ.- Following an investigation in connection with a Rutherford Apartment Fire, on Thursday, February 8, 2024, a 62-Year-Old Rutherford, New Jersey woman was Charged for intentionally Setting her Apartment on Fire.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, Members of The Rutherford Police Department responded to 126 Hastings Avenue, Apartment A, in Rutherford, New Jersey after receiving a Report of a Fire. Upon arrival, Police Officers and Firefighters encountered Smoke and Fire in the Kitchen, originating from Items that were Placed on the Stove. The Fire was Quickly Extinguished by The Rutherford Fire Department.

     During the subsequent investigation, Police Officers determined that Mary Anne Hampl, 62, of Rutherford, New Jersey had Placed the Items on The Stove, and had Intentionally Set The Fire in her Apartment.

     Accordingly, Ms. Hampl was Taken into Custody and Formally Charged with Second Degree Aggravated Arson; and Fourth Degree Causing or Risking Widespread Injury or Damage. 

     Hampl was Processed on The Charges and Remanded to The Bergen County Jail pending Future Court Proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
