THREE DC METRO POLICE OFFICERS STRUCK BY GUNFIRE WHILE SERVING AN ARREST WARRANT WEDNESDAY MORNING

     “Following An All-Day Standoff 46-Year-Old Julius James Surrenders To DC Metro Police After Wounding 3 Officers That Were Attempting To Arrest Him On Animal Cruelty Charges.”

WASHINGTON, DC.- A man accused of Shooting Three Police Officers with The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington DC, while the Officers were Attempting to Serve an Arrest Warrant for Charges of Animal Cruelty surrendered after an All-Day Standoff, DC Metro Police reported.

     The man, Julius James, 46, of Washington, DC. was Arrested and Charged with Cruelty to Animals, Metro Police Officials reported in a Wednesday Night Press Release. Additional Charges are Pending in connection with The Shooting of The Three Officers. 

     The incident began on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, just shortly before 7:30 a.m., when Members of The DC Metro Police Department’s Criminal Apprehension Unit and The Humane Rescue Alliance arrived at a Home located on The 5000 Block of Hanna Place South East in The Southeast Section of Washington, DC. 

     According to Authorities, while Police Officers were outside the Home, Mr. James Fired Multiple Gunshots through the door, Striking the Three Officers. The Police Officers were transported to The Hospital with Non-Life Threatening Injuries. According to DC. Metro Police Chief all Three Officers were doing well.

     A Fourth Police Officer was also injured, but their injuries were not Gunshot related. All Four Officers were Listed in Stable Condition and are expected to make a Full Recovery.

     The Suspect, Mr. James Fired Gunshots throughout the Day as he remained Barricaded inside his residence. Police Department Officials spent hours negotiating with James, and at times he became agitated, while other times he remained Positive, DC Police Chief Smith said. James later surrendered to Police Wednesday Evening.

     During Yesterday’s Standoff, Some area Residents were evacuated from their homes, according to Chief Smith. Police Officers Blocked Several Surrounding Streets and Advised People to Stay Away from the Area.

     After surrendering, Police Officers entered James Residence and found nearly a Dozen Pit Bulls inside. 

     Yesterday’s Shooting comes as Washington, DC, has seen a Sharp Rise in Violent Crime over the past year. From 2022 to 2023, Washington DC has seen a 35 percent increase in Homicides, a 67 percent increase in Robberies, and an 82 percent increase in Motor Vehicle Thefts, according to DC Metro Police Data.

     In an Update, just around an hour ago, Authorities reported that The Three DC Metro Police Officers have been released from the Hospital and seem to be in good spirits.
