KHARP, RUS.- Russia’s Prison Agency reported Today that Leading Vladimir Putin Critic and Imprisoned Former Opposition Leader Alexei Navalny has Died at 47

     According to The Associated Press, The Russian Federal Prison Service reported in a statement that Navalny felt unwell following a walk on Friday and fell unconscious. An ambulance arrived to try to rehabilitate him, but he died the statement added.

     Navalny was being held at The IK-3 Penal Colony, known as “The Polar Wolf,” located in Kharp in The Northern Section of Russia. The IK-3 Penal Colony has been classified as one of Russia’s Toughest Prisons. 

     Navalny, who had once organized Anti-Government Demonstrations and had run for Office to push for reforms against what he claimed was Russian Corruption. Navalny was the victim of an alleged assassination attempt in 2020 after he was Poisoned by a Suspected Novichok Nerve Agent. Navalny remained in a Coma for Weeks while Doctors in Germany Fought to Keep him Alive. After recovering Navalny accused Putin of his Poisoning.

     Following his recovery, Navalny returned to Russia in 2021, to be immediately arrested and later Sentenced to 19 Years in Prison on Extremism Charges. His legal team and family have repeatedly voiced concerns about his treatment following his return to Russia, and Navalny has said the charges and imprisonment were politically motivated.

     The region where Navalny was being held is notorious for long and severe winters. The IK-3 Penal Colony in Kharp is about Sixty Miles from Vorkuta, whose mines were part of the Soviet Gulag Prison Camp System. 

     According to The Associated Press, whenever Putin has spoken about Navalny, Putin made a point of not mentioning Navalny by name, referring to Navalny as “That Person,” or similar language, in efforts to diminish his importance.
