LAST NIGHT IN TRENTON NEWARK’S MAYOR RAS BARAKA WILL RUN FOR NEW JERSEY’S GOVERNOR IN 2025
“Ras Baraka Will Become The Third Democrat To Join The Race To Succeed Murphy In 2025.”

TRENTON, NJ.- Last Night in Trenton, New Jersey, during a Black History Event Third-Term Newark Mayor Ras Baraka announced that he will Run for Governor in 2025, which will make him the Third Democrat to enter the race when current Governor Murphy’s Term Limit expires in 2025.
Baraka, 53, is serving his Third Term as Newark’s Mayor, New Jersey’s Largest City. If Elected Baraka will be The State’s First Black Governor. With Last Night’s Announcement, Baraka will join Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Former New Jersey State Senate President Steve Sweeney in The 2025 State Democratic Primary Race.
Baraka, a former High School Principal, who served Two Terms on Newark’s City Council before winning the Mayoral Race in 2014, and won in 2018 and 2022 in Landslide Victories. Baraka’s late Father was a Civil Rights Leader and Poet in Newark, New Jersey.
One of Baraka’s Predecessors, Kenneth Gibson, tried Twice to seek The Democratic Gubernatorial Nomination, finishing Third in a Highly Packed Field in 1981 and then Finished Second in 1985, behind Rep. Jim Florio who won The New Jersey Gubernatorial Race. Gibson fell under a dark cloud of legal scrutiny after being charged in a Bribery and Fraud Case and Plead Guilty to a Tax-Evasion Charge in 2002 that spared him prison time.
During his Three Terms as Newark’s Mayor, Baraka has brought Newark back, to a Thriving Prosperous City. Combating Homelessness, Crime and Bringing Businesses and New Residents Back into The City of Newark.
If Elected to Governor of New Jersey, what will Baraka’s Stance be on Reparations throughout The State. During The Juneteenth Celebration in 2021, Mayor Baraka, in Front of Newark City Hall told residents to “Line Up” to receive Reparations. Still, as we are just Four Months away from 3 Years since that Promise, it is uncertain if any Newark Residents have received any.
