29-YEAR-OLD NEW YORK MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER WAS APPREHENDED ON SATURDAY IN MEDELLIN COLOMBIA

    “Joshua Alvarado Was Taken Into Custody & Charged With Murder, Felony Murder, Burglary & Weapons Offenses In An Englewood Armed Burglary.”

ENGLEWOOD, NJ.- A 29-Year-Old Manhattan, New York man Wanted in connection with The Armed Burglary and Murder of a 35-Year-Old Bronx, New York man inside an Englewood Residence was Apprehended by Members of The United States Marshals Service on Saturday in Medellin, Colombia.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Saturday, September 30, 2023, shortly before 6:00 a.m., Members of The Englewood Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a Shooting inside a residence located at 6 Mevan Avenue in Englewood.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found Jason Hidalgo, 35, of The Bronx, New York, Dead inside the residence from Multiple Gunshot Wounds. A Swift-Moving Investigation by Members of The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and The Englewood Police Department were quickly able to Identify Joshau Alvarado, 29, of Manhattan, New York, as The Individual that Shot and Killed Mr. Hidalgo and then Fled The State.

     According to Authorities, a Months-Long Investigation by Detectives of The Bergen County Major Crimes Unit and The Englewood Police Department determined that after Fleeing New Jersey, Mr. Alvarado ultimately Fled The United States days after The Murder. As a result of Diligent and Relentless Efforts by Detectives and Assistant Prosecutors, Mr. Alvarado was Located and Arrested in Medellin, Colombia on Saturday, February 17, 2024, with the assistance of The United States Marshals Service and The Colombian National Police.

     Following his Arrest, Alvarado was Charged with First Degree Murder; First Degree Felony Murder; Second Degree Armed Burglary; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon by Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons; Second Degree Aggravated Assault; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Possession of a Firearm Without Being Licensed.

     Mr. Alvarado is Currently being Detained in Colombia pending Extradition back to New Jersey where he will Face Future Court Proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court.
