Arrest Made In October 1, 2023, Paterson Shooting Death

26-YEAR-OLD HACKENSACK MAN CHARGED WITH THE SHOOTING DEATH OF A 22-YEAR-OLD WOMAN

     “Christopher Thomas Was Charged Yesterday In Connection With The Fatal Shooting Mary Taylor From Paterson, New Jersey.”

PATERSON, NJ.- A 26-Year-Old Hackensack, New Jersey man was Taken into Custody Yesterday and Charged in connection with The October 1, 2023, Shooting Death of a 22-Year-Old Paterson, New Jersey woman in Paterson, New Jersey.

     According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Thursday, March 13, 2024, Detectives from The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and The Paterson Police Department Arrested Christopher Thomas of Hackensack, New Jersey, and Formally Charged him with First Degree Murder; First Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Second Degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.

     Thomas was Processed on The Charges and was Remanded to The Passaic County Jail pending a First Appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has Filed a Pretrial Detention Motion to have Thomas Detained pending Trial.

     The Charges stem from an incident, when on October 1, 2024, shortly before 9:30 p.m., while on Routine Patrol a Paterson Police Officer heard Several Gunshots in the area of Van Houten and Cianci Streets in The City of Paterson. Within minutes Multiple 911 Emergency Calls were received by The Paterson Police Department and Additional Patrol Units were Dispatched to The Scene.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a woman, identified as Mary Taylor, 22, of Paterson, New Jersey with an apparent Gunshot Wound. Ms.Taylor was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center where she succumbed to her injury and was pronounced deceased a short time later. 

     An Investigation was launched and during the course of the investigation, Detectives were able to identify Thomas as one of The Shooters and the individual responsible for the Death of Ms. Taylor.
