FOUR IN CUSTODY ONE ON THE RUN IN CONNECTION WITH THE FEBRUARY 4 2024 GARFIELD STABBING DEATH

     “Jayson Rivera, Bryant Sanchez, Erony Sanchez, & Dante Moore Are In Custody, & Ricky “Angel” Vargas Remains On The Run.”

GARFIELD, NJ.- Three Passaic County, New Jersey men, and Two East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania men, One who remains on The Run have been Charged in connection with The February 2024, Fatal Beating and Stabbing of a 31-Year-Old Hawthorne, New Jersey man outside a Garfield, New Jersey Bar and Grill.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Sunday, February 4, 2024, shortly after 12:30 a.m., Members of The Garfield Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call Reporting a Stabbing at JoJo’s Bar and Grill located on Monroe Street in Garfield.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Richard Franceschi, 31, of Hawthrone, New Jersey, suffering from Multiple Stab Wounds to his Chest. Mr. Franceschi was immediately transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 1:29 a.m.

     The ensuing investigation determined that following an altercation Detectives determined that Ricky “Angel” Vargas, Jayson Rivera, Bryant Sanchez, Erony Sanchez, and Dante Moore were the individuals responsible for Assaulting and Stabbing Mr. Franceschi Multiple Times with a Knife. Rivera was in Possession of a Firearm and Vargas was in Possession of a Knife. Following the Attack all Five Men Fled the Scene to Avoid Arrest.

     On Thursday, February 22, 2024, Erony Sanchez of Clifton, New Jersey, and Dante Moore of Passaic, New Jersey were Taken into Custody in Passaic, New Jersey by Bergen County Authorities and New Jersey State Police. Bryant Sanchez of Paterson, New Jersey was Taken into Custody in Ogdensburg, New Jersey by Members of The New Jersey State Police. All Three were Charged with First Degree Murder; and Third Degree Causing Bodily Injury and Leaving the Scene of a Crime Where the Victim was Physically Helpless. Bryant Sanchez was Additionally Charged with Second Degree Aggravated Assault. Dante Moore was Additionally Charged with Third Degree Theft.

     All Three were Processed on The Charges and were Remanded to The Bergen County Jail. During a Pretrial Detention Hearing a Bergen County Superior Court Judge Ordered all Three to be Detained pending Trial.

     On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Jayson Rivera of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania was Taken into Custody in Garfield, New Jersey, and Formally Charged with First Degree Murder; Third Degree Causing Bodily Injury, and Leaving the Scene of a Crime where the Victim was Physically Helpless; Second Degree Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose; and Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm: Rivera was Processed on The Charges and was Remanded to The Bergen County Jail, and is awaiting a Pretrial Detention Hearing.

     Ricky “Angel” Vargas, of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania remains at Large and has been Charged with First Degree Murder; Third Degree Causing Bodily Injury, and Leaving the Scene of a Crime Where the Victim was Physically Helpless. In Addition, Vargas was Charged with Third Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Fourth Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Vargas is Considered Armed and Dangerous.
