PORT MONMOUTH, NJ.- A 64-Year-Old Edison, New Jersey man was Hospitalized after being Struck Multiple Times with a Sledgehammer during an Attack at a local Tire Shop in The Port Monmouth Section of Middletown Township, New Jersey.
According to Monmouth County Authorities, Michael Gonzales, 36, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after being Detained by Witnesses was Taken into Custody by Middletown Township Police Officers and Charged with First Degree Attempted Murder; Aggravated Assault; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Gonzales has also been accused of Pushing a Female Victim, causing her to fall to the ground and sustain injuries.
The incident unfolded when on Friday, April 5, 2024, around 2:00 p.m., Members of The Middletown Township Police Department responded to Crown Tire located on Route 36 in The Port Monmouth Section of The Township on a Report of an Assault.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, Identified as Rocky Granada, 64, of Edison Township, New Jersey suffering from Serious Injuries to his Head. Mr. Granada was immediately Air-Lifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey for Treatment. Police Officers also found a woman suffering from injuries she sustained after being pushed to the ground. The woman was also transported to an area Hospital for treatment.
The preliminary investigation determined that Gonzales Struck Mr. Granada, who is a Trump Supporter and has been known to drive his RV throughout New Jersey covered with Pro-Donald Trump and Make America Great Again Messages, Multiple Times with a Handheld Sledgehammer, after an apparent dispute. Authorities have reported that the attack does not appear to be Politically Motivated, but Authorities are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Following the Attack, Gonzales was Detained by Witnesses until Police arrived. After being Taken into Custody and Formally Charged, Gonzales was Transported to The Monmouth County Correctional Institution where he still remains detained pending Future Court Proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court in Freehold, New Jersey.
