No Charges Filed In Accidental Shooting Death Of Woman

ON FRIDAY AN EDISON TOWNSHIP MAN FATALLY SHOT HIS WIFE WHILE CLEANING HIS GUN

     “Authorities Have Not Filed Charges Against Robert Novak In The Tragic Friday Afternoon Accidental Shooting Death Of His Wife Patricia.”

EDISON TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Following a Preliminary Investigation, Middlesex County Authorities have declined to File Charges at this time in connection with a Tragic Friday Afternoon Fatal Shooting that occurred inside an Edison Township, New Jersey Residence.

     According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, on Friday, April 5, 2024, shortly after 2:00 p.m., Members of The Edison Township Police Department responded to a Frantic 911 Emergency Call reporting that a man had Accidently Shot his wife inside their Glencourt Avenue Home.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found Patricia Novak, 76, of Edison, New Jersey suffering from an apparent Life-Threatening Gunshot Wound. Mrs. Novak was immediately transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where she succumbed to the injury and was pronounced deceased.

     The initial investigation by Detective Christian Paone of The Edison Township Police Department and Detective Jose Rosario of The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Mrs. Novak’s Husband, Robert Novak, 82, of Edison, New Jersey was in a First Floor Room of their residence when he Attempted to Clear One of his Registered Firearms. The Weapon Discharged into the Basement where and Struck his Wife.

     Mr. Novak heard his Wife Patricia Scream and immediately ran down into the Basement to Check on her. Upon learning that he had Accidentally Shot her, he immediately Called 911.

     During the initial investigation, Mr. Novak completely cooperated with Detectives throughout their inquiry into the Shooting.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing.
