Man Wanted In Cape May County Stabbing Apprehended

26-Year-Old Man Wanted For April 3, 2024, Stabbing In Lower Township Apprehended In Mississippi

LOWER TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Following a multi-state investigation, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, a 26-year-old Lower Township, New Jersey man wanted for an April 3, 2024, stabbing of an individual was taken into custody in Wayne County, Mississippi, where he will remain detained pending an extradition hearing.

     According to Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, members of the Lower Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a stabbing at a residence on Oregon Avenue in the Villas Section of Lower Township.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a victim who had been stabbed multiple times during an argument. The victim was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment for multiple stab wounds. At the time the victim was admitted and listed in critical but stable condition.

     A swift-moving investigation by Detectives of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lower Township Police Department were able to gather information that led to Imani S. Goodman, 26, of Lower Township, New Jersey as the suspect and the individual responsible for the stabbing. 

     Accordingly, Goodman was charged with second-degree Attempted Murder; two counts of second-degree Aggravated Assault; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. 

     Following the charges being filed, Detectives learned that Goodman had fled the area to avoid arrest and prosecution.

     An extensive investigation was launched into the whereabouts of Goodman. Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement was able to track Goodman to Mississippi, where on Wednesday, April 23, 2024, Goodman was apprehended in Wayne County, Mississippi by members of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. Goodman was lodged in the Wayne County Jail and Detention Center pending extradition back to New Jersey.
