Phillipsburg Man Charged With Weapons Offenses

18-Year-Old Phillipsburg Man Was Apprehended On Firearms Charges In Connection With A Shooting Incident

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ.- An 18-year-old Phillipsburg, New Jersey man was taken into custody in Pennsylvania on charges in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on Friday, April 12, 2024, in Phillipsburg, New Jersey.

     According to Warren County Prosecutor Anthony A. Picione, on Friday, April 12, 2024, at just around 10:15 p.m., members of the Phillipsburg Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a person being shot on the 200 Block of Stockton Street in Phillipsburg.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers were informed that no one had been shot, but a man had discharged a handgun.

     A swift-moving investigation by Detectives of the Phillipsburg Police Department in conjunction with members of the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office was quickly able to identify Javon Singletary, 18, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey as a suspect and the individual for possessing and firing the handgun. Detectives were unable to locate Singletary, until Tuesday, April 30, 2024, Singletary was located and taken into custody in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and was lodged in the Lehigh County Jail in Allentown, Pennsylvania pending extradition to New Jersey.

     Singletary was formally charged with second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and third-degree Attempted Aggravated Assault.

     If convicted on the charges, Singletary will face a term of ten years in New Jersey State Prison.

“The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
