Lower Township Woman Was Charged Yesterday With Manslaughter In 2023 Death Of Infant Son

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ.- Following a lengthy investigation by Cape May County Authorities, a 29-year-old woman of the Villas Section of Lower Township, New Jersey was arrested yesterday and charged in connection with the 2023 death of her 6-month-old son.
On Thursday, May 9, 2024, Michelle Stanton, 29, of the Villas Section of Lower Township, New Jersey was taken into custody by Detectives of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Lower Township Police Department and formally charged with second-degree Manslaughter; and second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Following being processed on the charges, Ms. Statnton was transported to the Cape May County Regional Correctional Facility, where following a first appearance later on Thursday, Ms. Stanton was released on pretrial monitoring pending future court proceedings in Cape May County Superior Court.
According to Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland, the arrest and charges stem from an investigation that unfolded when on June 25, 2023, members of the Lower Township Police Department responded to an Emergency Call reporting an unresponsive baby at a residence located on the 200 Block of East Wilde Avenue in Villas, New Jersey.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 6-month-old baby boy, later identified as Christian Carty, Ms. Stanton’s son, in distress. The child was immediately transported to Cape Regional Medical Center where the infant boy was pronounced deceased.
Although authorities have not released the cause and the manner of death, the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office and the determination from a lengthy investigation led Detectives from the Prosecutor’s Office to file charges against Ms. Stanton on Thursday.
