MAYS LANDING, NJ.- Hello, my name is William Reynolds. I am the Atlantic County Prosecutor. We are here today to raise awareness regarding mental health issues in the criminal justice system. The month of May has been designated as Mental Health Awareness Month. As you can see from my lapel, we are wearing green ribbons to show support for those struggling with mental health issues.
One in five Americans are struggling with mental health issues. We see it every day in the criminal justice system, whether it’s a witness, victim, or a defendant; a lot of the times mental health is the root cause of issues that we see in court here every day.
We are asking all of you to join the fight to support those who need the support the most, those who are struggling with mental health issues. We have created programs such as the Mental Health Diversion Program, the Resiliency Program for officers, and the Arrive Together Program where a non-law enforcement officer responds to a mental health crisis. We are asking all of you to join the fight to show support for those who are struggling with mental health issues. Thank you, William Reynolds, Atlantic County Prosecutor.
