2 Local Men Plead Guilty To Assaulting Corrections Officer At The Atlantic County Juvenile Detention Center

MAYS LANDING, NJ.- On Thursday, May 16, 2024, a 20-year-old Atlantic City, New Jersey man and a 21-year-old Galloway Township, New Jersey man appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and each entered guilty pleas to third-degree Aggravated Assault on a Corrections Employee.
According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on December 12, 2022, Bilal Rex, 20, and Samir Abdullah, 21, assaulted two corrections officers while inside the Atlantic County Juvenile Detention Center. Both Rex and Bilal were already serving terms of incarceration on previous guilty pleas on unrelated charges.
In return for the guilty pleas, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office will recommend a three-year New Jersey State Prison Term for both Rex and Bilal. Sentencing in the matter has been scheduled for July 11, 2024, before the Honorable Dorothy Incavito-Garrabrant, J.S.C. Rex and Bilal will remain in custody pending their sentencing.
