On Monday A 41-Year-Old Neptune Township Man Was Convicted Of The Armed Robbery Of A 7-11 Store

NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Monday, June 10, 2024, a jury sitting in Monmouth County, New Jersey returned a guilty verdict against a 41-year-old Neptune Township, New Jersey in connection with last year’s armed robbery of a Neptune Township 7-11 convenience store.
According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, on Monday, following a jury trial in Monmouth County Superior Court, the jury returned a guilty verdict against William A. Herndon, 41, of armed robbery.
The guilty verdict stems from an incident that began on Friday, March 31, 2023, when just shortly after 1:00 a.m., members of the Neptune Township Police Department responded to an alarm activation from the 7-11 Convenience Store located on Route 35 near the intersection of West Lake Avenue in the township
During the initial investigation, Police Officers learned that while a store cashier was attempting to give change to a customer, a male suspect pulled out a sawed-off shotgun and reached over the counter in an attempt to grab money from the cash register. The man then fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Following a swift-moving investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Neptune Township Police Department, Detectives were quickly able to identify Herndon as the individual who committed the robbery. On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, Herndon was taken into custody and formally charged.
After being processed on the charges in the armed robbery, Herndon was remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold, New Jersey.
During the trial, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office presented physical evidence, witness testimony, and a video depicting Herndon sawing off the end of the shotgun he used in the robbery, to prove their case.
Sentencing in the matter has been scheduled for Friday, August 30, 2024, before the Honorable Christie Bevacqua, J.S.C., at which time Herndon faces a potential New Jersey State Prison term of up to 20 years in prison. The sentence will be subject to The No Early Release Act which will require Herndon to serve 85% of his custodial sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
