20-Year-Old Toms River, New Jersey Man Charged With Shooting 24-Year-Old Man In Leg Wednesday Night

TOMS RIVER, NJ.- A 20-year-old Toms River, New Jersey man was taken into custody and jailed yesterday, in connection with shooting a man in the leg late Wednesday night outside an Adams Avenue residence in Toms River.

     According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, on Thursday, June 13, 2024, Anthony Brown, 20, of Toms River, New Jersey was formally charged with Aggravated Assault; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Brown was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Ocean County Jail pending future court proceedings in Ocean County Superior Court.

     The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, when at just around 11:30 p.m., members of the Toms River Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a person being shot at an Adams Avenue residence. 

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a 24-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his leg. The man was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey for treatment.

     A subsequent investigation by Detectives of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and the Toms River Township Police Department quickly determined that Brown went inside the residence, retrieved a handgun, and fired two shots at the victim’s car, striking the victim in the leg. Following firing the shots, Brown fled the scene. a short time later on early Thursday morning, Brown was taken into custody at his Toms River home.

“The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
