67-Year-Old Jersey City Man, & Former Charter School Teacher Charged With Sexual Contact With Student

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez reported, on Friday, June 14, 2024, that a 67-year-old University Academy Charter High School Teacher was taken into custody and formally charged in connection with inappropriate contact with a juvenile student that allegedly occurred on May 29, 2024, during school hours.

     Steven Gordon, 67, of Jersey City, New Jersey, was formally charged with second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact. 

     Gordon was taken into custody at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus, New Jersey. Following being processed on the charges Gordon was released on a summons complaint pending his first appearance in Hudson County Central Judicial Processing Court, which has been scheduled for Friday, July 5, 2024.

     Following the investigation by Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, Gordon promptly resigned from his teaching position with the school.
