HACKENSACK, NJ.- Today, a 36-year-old Bloomfield, New Jersey woman was taken into custody and charged in connection with embezzling around $400,000 from her former Hackensack, New Jersey employer.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, in March of 2022, Detectives from the Hackensack Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit regarding an alleged employee embezzling report. An investigation was launched into the alleged theft.

During the course of a comprehensive investigation, Detectives determined that Briana Rodriguez, 36, of Bloomfield, New Jersey, used her position as a medical billing professional to embezzle approximately $400,000 from her employer through unauthorized refunds to bank accounts she controlled.

Accordingly, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, Ms. Rodriguez was taken into custody outside her home in Bloomfield, New Jersey, by Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and with the assistance of the Bloomfield Police Department, and formally charged with one count of second-degree Theft by Unlawful Taking.

Rodriguez was processed on the charge and released on a complaint summons, pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
