UNION CITY, NJ.- On Monday, June 17, 2024, a 39-year-old Jersey City, New Jersey man and former president of a Union City Homeowners Association was taken into custody and charged with allegedly embezzling over $150,000, during 6 years from the association’s bank accounts.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Monday at the conclusion of an investigation, Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit arrested Eric Li, 39, of Jersey City, New Jersey, and formally charged him with one count of second-degree Theft by Unlawful Taking.

Li was taken into custody at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus, New Jersey. Following being processed on the charge, Li was released on a summons complaint pending future court proceedings in Hudson County Superior Court in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The charge stems from an investigation that began after the Detectives were notified of an alleged theft from a Union City homeowners association. During the investigation, Detectives determined that Li misappropriated over $150,000 from the association for his personal gain while he served as the association board’s president between  2017 and 2023.

“The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
