Bergen County Man Charged With Making False Public Alarms

26-Year-Old Fair Lawn Man Apprehended In Queens New York For Causing Public Alarms

HACKENSACK, NJ.- Yesterday, a 26-year-old Fair Lawn, New Jersey man was apprehended in Queens, New York, in connection with a string of threatening phone calls and emails targeting Bergen County businesses, crisis centers, and law enforcement agencies.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, in March 2024, Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit and Intelligence and Terrorism Unit launched an investigation into a pattern of fictitious phone calls and emails targeting Bergen County crisis centers, local businesses, and law enforcement agencies about an individual armed with a deadly weapon or an explosive device who was planning an attack.

     During the investigation, Detectives determined that in January, March, and April 2024. Clyde Johnson, 26, of Fair Lawn, New Jersey allegedly made false reports via phone calls and emails affecting locations and law enforcement agencies throughout Bergen County, New Jersey, which included the communities of Franklin Lakes, Paramus, Wyckoff, Maywood, Fair Lawn, Fort Lee, and Bergenfield.

     Accordingly, charges were filed against Johnson on the crimes of four counts of second-degree False Public Alarm; third-degree Attempted False Public Alarm; and third-degree False Public Alarm.

     On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, with the assistance of the New York City Police Department and the United States Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations Division, Johnson was located and apprehended in Queens, New York. 

     Following being taken into custody, Johnson was remanded to the Queens County Jail as a Fugitive from Justice pending extradition back to Bergen County, New Jersey to face trial on the charges.
