34-Year-Old Morris County Man Charged In Yesterday’s Shooting Death In Small Warren County Community

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Warren County authorities have charged a 34-year-old Netcong, New Jersey man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred yesterday morning in Independence Township, New Jersey.
According to Acting Warren County Prosecutor Anthony A. Picione, Anthony J. Garvin, 34, of Netcong, New Jersey, was taken into custody in Pennsylvania, following being formally charged with first-degree Murder; and second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Garvin is currently being detained in the Berks County Prison in Leesport, Pennsylvania pending extradition back to Warren County, New Jersey.
The charges stem from an investigation that began, when at around 8:20 a.m., on Thursday, June 27, 2024, Warren County authorities along with New Jersey State Police responded to a report of a shooting on Alphano Road in Independence Township. Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered an individual, who was reported as being deceased from gunshot wounds from Garvin.
Following the shooting Garvin fled the scene causing a shelter-in-place order for the area. Following a swift-moving investigation, and just a little over three hours later, Garvin was located and taken in Pennsylvania.
Warren County authorities have not released the identity of the victim or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
