53-Year-Old Egg Harbor Township Woman Charged With Operating 2 Brothels In Ocean County

BARNEGAT, NJ.- Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer reported, that following an eight-month investigation into alleged prostitution activities, in Barnegat Township, New Jersey, and Stafford Township, New Jersey, a 53-year-old Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey woman woman was taken into custody and charged.

     On June 19, 2024, Kani Peng, 53, of Egg Harbor Township was formally charged with Promoting Prostitution; Maintaining a Nuisance, for Operating a House of Prostitution; Financial Facilitation; and Engaging in Prostitution. Peng was processed on the charges and released on a summons pending future court proceedings in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River, New Jersey.

     Beginning in October 2023, through June 2024, Detectives of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Barnegat Township Police Department, and the Stafford Township Police Department conducted an investigation into alleged acts of prostitution being conducted out of two locations, the Rainbow Spa in Barnegat Township and the Bay Spa in Strafford Township.

     The investigation determined that women who were living at both the Rainbow Spa and the Bay Spa were engaging in sexual activity for money. Detectives further determined that Peng was the owner and manager of both locations and was seen on numerous occasions bringing supplies to both locations, including food, clothing, and cleaning supplies.

     On June 19, 2024, investigators executed court-authorized search warrants on Peng’s residence in Egg Harbor Township, as well as the two spas. During the search, investigators found evidence that confirmed that prostitution activities were occurring at both locations and records confirming that Peng was the owner and operator of both spas.

“The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
