26-Year-Old Freehold Man Charged With Attempted Murder & Weapons Offenses For Shooting A Man In Face

JACKSON. NJ.- A 26-year-old Freehold Borough, New Jersey man was taken into custody yesterday and jailed following being charged in connection with last Thursday’s early morning dispute over a parking spot, some other matter, turned violent and ended with a 27-year-old man being shot in the face outside a Jackson Township residence.

     According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, Michael Vulpis, 26, of Freehold Borough, New Jersey has been charged with first-degree Attempted Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons. 

     The charges stem from an investigation that began on Thursday, June 27, 2024, when shortly before 12:30 a.m., members of the Jackson Township Police Department to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a man being shot outside a Larsen Road residence in Jackson Township.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 27-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. The man was immediately transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment and has subsequently been released.

     A swift-moving investigation by members of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Jackson Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the victim and a female were sitting in a parked car outside a residence on Larsen Road. A blue sedan pulled up in front of the victim’s car, blocking it in. Two men exited the blue sedan, approached the victim’s car, and knocked on the window. As the victim was exiting the car, one of the men began to strike the victim. As the fight continued, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the face. The two men then fled the area.

     Further investigation by Detectives was able to identify Vulpis as the suspect and the individual who shot the victim.

     On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Vulpis was taken into custody at his residence in Freehold Borough, New Jersey without incident. Following being processed on the charges, Vulpis was remanded to the Ocean County Jail pending future court proceedings in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River, New Jersey.
