39-Year-Old Mays Landing Man Charged With Murder For Allegedly Stabbing His Landlord To Death

MAYS LANDING, NJ.- A 39-year-old Mays Landing, New Jersey man was taken into custody and charged following a Wednesday late afternoon dispute that turned deadly when the man fatally stabbed his landlord, Solomon Lonner, 49, of Lakewood, New Jersey.

     According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at around 5:19 p.m., members of the Hamilton Township Police Department responded to multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting a stabbing in progress at 789 Park Road in the Mays Landing section of Hamilton Township.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found Solomon Looner, inside the the home unresponsive from multiple stab wounds. Mr. Lonner was immediately transported to AtlaniCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he succumbed to his injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased a short time later.

     The initial investigation by responding Police Officers determined that Michael Carney, 39, of Mays Landing, New Jersey, an individual who rented the home with others from Mr. Lonner became involved in an apparent altercation that ended with Carney stabbing Mr. Lonner several times resulting in his death.

     Accordingly, following the stabbing Carney was detained at the scene, and on Wednesday evening formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. 

     Carney was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending future court proceedings in Atlantic County Superior Court in Mays Landing, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court requires us to include a statement, that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
