ELMWOOD PARK, NJ.- A 24-year-old Elmwood Park, New Jersey, has been charged in connection with causing a severe motor vehicle crash that occurred yesterday on Market Street in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Monday, July 8, 2024, members of the Elmwood Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a two-car severe motor vehicle crash on Market Street in Elmwood Park.

Upon arrival, Police Officers notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, which responded to the scene. Police Officers and Detectives learned that a 2008 Acura sedan operated by Juan P. Alban Naranjo, 24, of Elmwood Park, was traveling west on Market Street when it crossed the opposite lane and collided head-on with a 2007 Ford SUV.

As a result of the crash, the passenger in the Ford SUV suffered severe injuries. The passenger was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

During the initial investigation, Police Officers discovered that Alban Naranjo was driving his vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

Accordingly, following the investigation, Alban Naranjo was taken into custody and charged with fourth-degree Assault by Auto and fourth-degree Causing Injury While Driving Unlicensed. He was also issued multiple motor vehicle summonses. After being processed on the charges, Alban Naranjo was released pending his first appearance in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court, which has been scheduled for Friday, July 19, 2024.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
