MAYS LANDING, NJ.- Yesterday, two local Atlantic County men were sentenced to state prison in connection with assaulting two corrections officers in 2022.

According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on Thursday, July 11, 2024, Bilal Rex, 20, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Samir Abdullah, 21, of Galloway Township, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and were each sentenced to three years in New Jersey State Prison.

Both Rex and Abdullah were already serving terms of incarceration on prior convictions. The new three-year terms will be served consecutively to their previously imposed sentences.

Back on December 12, 2022, while being incarcerated in the Atlantic County Juvenile Detention Center, Rex and Abdullah assaulted two corrections officers.

Following entering into a plea agreement with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office on May 16, 2024, both Rex and Abdullah appeared in court, and each pled guilty to one count of third-degree Aggravated Assault on Corrections Employees.
