MAYS LANDING, NJ.- On Friday, July 12, 2024, Sean Daly, 53, of Mays Landing, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Joseph A. Levin, J.S.C., on the charge of first-degree Murder in connection with the stabbing death of his 74-year-old mother.
According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, under the terms of the plea agreement, the Prosecutor’s Office will request that Daly be sentenced to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison without the possibility of parole.
The plea stems from an investigation that unfolded on March 20, 2024, when members of the Hamilton Township Police Department responded to a residence located in the Mays Landing section of the Township after receiving a report of an altercation between Daly and his mother, Melba Daly, 74, also of Mays Landing, New Jersey.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found the lifeless body of Ms. Daly, dead from multiple stab wounds, inside the home. During the initial investigation, Daly confessed to killing his mother during an interview with Detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hamilton Township Police Department.
Following the interview, Daly was taken into custody and formally charged. After being processed on the charges, Daly was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility and has remained incarcerated since his arrest.
Sentencing for Daly has been scheduled for October 11, 2024, in Atlantic County Superior Court.
