20-Year-Old Sewaren Man Charged With Multiple Counts Of Sexual Assault On A Girl Under 13 Years Of Age

BERGENFIELD, NJ.- Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella reported that on Wednesday, a 20-year-old Sewaren, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a child in the past, who was under the age of sixteen at the time of the assaults.

     On Sunday, May 19, 2024, the Bergenfield Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after receiving a report into allegations of multiple past sexual assaults of a child who was under the age of sixteen.

     After interviewing witnesses, including the juvenile victim, Detectives of the Bergen County Special Victims Unit and the Bergenfield Police Department determined that Richard G. Simko, 20, of the Sewaren Section of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, sexually assaulted the child in Bergenfield, New Jersey on multiple occasions.

     Accordingly, on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Simko was taken into custody in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, by Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and formally charged with five counts of second-degree Sexual Assault; and third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

     Simko was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
