Domestic Dispute Tragically Ends With A Man Fatally Shooting His Wife & Then Taking His Own Life

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Detectives of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Saturday night’s domestic dispute, which turned deadly when a 53-year-old husband to fatally shoot his 52-year-old wife before turning the gun on himself and taken his own life.
According to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae, on Saturday, July 28, 2024, shortly after 7:30 p.m., members of the New Jersey State Police responded to a report of a murder-suicide at a residence located on Roadstown Road in Hopewell Township, New Jersey.
Upon arrival, State Troopers discovered the bodies of a 52-year-old woman, identified only as A.M., and a 53-year-old man, identified only as J.M., both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The initial investigation by State Troopers determined that the two were husband and wife.
The ensuing investigation at this time is that the woman was shot by the man, and then the man turned the gun and took his own life. The official cause and manner of the deaths are pending findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
Detectives have determined that this incident was a murder-suicide based on observations that there were no signs of forced entry into the house and no signs of third-party foul play.
The names of the husband and wife are not going to be released due to privacy laws related to New Jersey’s Domestic Violence Statutes.
