ABSECON, NJ.- Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds reported that on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, Earnest Carroll, 69, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and entered guilty pleas to the charges of second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Manufacturing/Distribution of Cocaine.

In return for the guilty plea, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office will recommend that Carroll be sentenced to a term of nine years in New Jersey State Prison.

The guilty pleas stem from an investigation that unfolded on November 19, 2022, when members of the Absecon Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop on a car being driven by Carroll. During the stop, Police Officers noticed a homemade billy club tucked down with the handle sticking up alongside the driver’s seat. After discovering the billy club, Police Officers conducted a search of the vehicle.

During the search, Police Officers found additional weapons, cocaine, and drug paraphernalia consistent with the packaging of narcotics for sale. Following the search, Carroll was taken into custody and formally charged.

Sentencing in the matter has been scheduled for September 15, 2024, in Atlantic County Superior Court before the Honorable Marlaina Mutchko, J.S.C.
