TOMS RIVER, NJ.- Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer reported that on Friday, August 2, 2024, Christopher Gregor, 32, of Monroe Township, New Jersey, appeared in Ocean County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan to a term of 25 years in New Jersey State Prison in connection with the April 2021 death of his 6-year-old son.

Following a nearly six-week trial before Superior Court Judge Ryan, on March 31, 2024, an Ocean County jury found Gregor guilty of Aggravated Manslaughter; and Endangering the Welfare of a Trial. During yesterday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Ryan sentenced Gregor to 20 years for the aggravated manslaughter charge and 5 years for endangering the welfare of a child offense.

Judge Ryan ordered the sentences to be served consecutively. It was further ordered that Gregor must serve 85% of his custodial sentence on the aggravated manslaughter charge before becoming eligible for parole under the No Early Release Act.

The conviction and sentence stem from an investigation that unfolded on April 2, 2021, when members of the Stafford Township Police Department responded to Southern Ocean Medical Center regarding the death of a 6-year-old boy, identified as C.M. On April 3, 2021, an autopsy was performed on the child, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the cause of the boy’s death was due to blunt force trauma to the chest, and an investigation was launched.

During the course of the investigation into the child’s death, Detectives of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Barnegat Police Department, along with other Ocean County law enforcement agencies, discovered evidence that uncovered that Gregor had committed numerous acts of abuse against his son in Barnegat Township, New Jersey, on March 20, 2021. Accordingly, based on the evidence, on July 7, 2021, Gregor was taken into custody and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

After being processed on the charge, Gregor was remanded to the Ocean County Jail. After appearing in Ocean County Superior Court, Gregor was released on bail monitoring conditions.

Eight months later, on March 3, 2022, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office received a report from the Prosecution’s expert witness that indicated that the injuries that C.M. died from were the result of severe blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen and determined the manner of death to be homicide.

An extensive investigation by Detectives of the Ocean County Major Crimes Unit in conjunction with the Barnegat Township Police Department determined the C.M. was in the custody of Gregor at the time the child sustained the injuries, and Gregor was responsible for the boy’s death.

Accordingly, on March 9, 2022, Gregor was taken into custody and formally charged for his son’s death. Gregor has been lodged in the Ocean County Jail since his arrest and will be turned over to the New Jersey Department of Corrections to begin his state prison sentence.

“Christopher Gregor will spend the rest of his days here on earth knowing that he caused the death of his son Corey. While nothing can bring this precious child back to his family, I hope today’s sentence brings some sense of closure for those who knew and loved Corey. At long last, justice for Corey has been accomplished,” Prosecutor Billhimer stated.
