44-Year-Old Cincinnati Ohio Man Charged With Federal Child Pornography Offenses

CINCINNATI, OH.- On Friday, July 26, 2024, a 44-year-old Cincinnati, Ohio, man who is employed as a school teacher was taken into custody and jailed after being charged with federal child pornography offenses.
According to U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker, Mark A. Altherr, 44, of Cincinnati, who is employed as a fitness education teacher in the Oak Hills School District, was taken into custody by FBI Agents and criminally charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio with Possession of Child Pornography; and Distribution of Child Pornography.
Altherr appeared in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati on July 29, 2024, and was temporarily detained on the charges pending future court proceedings.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed with the court, an investigation into Altheer’s online activities was uncovered by federal investigators. During the course of the investigation, federal agents uncovered that allegedly, Altherr over the past three years had made over 262 posts on a child pornography website. Some of the posts appeared to be minor children engaged in explicit sexual conduct. The victims were alleged to be between the ages of five and twelve years old.
“Investigators are now working to protect children in our community,” said Kenneth L. Parker, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio. “Our office and the FBI encourage anyone who might have about victims to report it to the FBI’s resource page listed below.”

If convicted on both charges, Altherr could face a potential Federal Prison Term of at least five years and up to 25 years.
