24-Year-Old Secaucus Man & A 21-Year-Old North Bergen Woman Are Charged For Yesterday’s Fatal Shooting

NORTH BERGEN, NJ.- A 24-year-old Secaucus, New Jersey man, and a 21-year-old North Bergen, New Jersey woman were taken into custody and jailed following being charged in connection with the robbery and fatal shooting of a 31-year-old North Bergen man that occurred yesterday morning in North Bergen.
According to Hudson Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Monday, August 5, 2024, just shortly after 9:00 a.m., members of the North Bergen Police Department responded to the area of Meadowview Avenue and 61st Street after receiving a 911 Emergency Call reporting an injured man.

Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, identified as Juan Ortiz, 31, of North Bergen, having sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. Mr. Ortiz was immediately transported to Palisades Medical Center, where despite lifesaving efforts, he tragically succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased just 40 minutes later
A swift-moving investigation by Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the North Bergen Police Department was quickly able to identify two suspects, James Baker, 24, of Secaucus, New Jersey, and Arwa Elmohdli, 21, of North Bergen, New Jersey as the individuals responsible for the robbery and shooting death of Mr. Ortiz.
Accordingly, Baker has been formally charged with first-degree Murder; first-degree Felony Murder; Robbery; Conspiracy to Commit Robbery; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Baker was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first appearance.
Elmohdli was formally charged with first-degree Felony Murder as an Accomplice; and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. Elmohdli was also processed on the charges and was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first appearance.
