U.S. Congressional Squad Member Cori Bush Loses Democratic Primary To Challenger Wesley Bell In Missouri

SAINT LOUIS, MO.- Missouri U.S. Congressional Representative Cori Bush has lost to Democratic primary challenger, Saint Louis County prosecuting attorney Wesley Bell. Yesterday’s loss will make her the second Congressional “Squad” member to be ousted following New York’s U.S. Representative Jamaal Bowman’s ouster just six weeks ago.

Bush, a member of the U.S. House Progressive Lawmakers, like Bowman, had been earmarked for a tough primary challenge in Missouri’s 1st Congressional District. Tuesday’s race ended up being the second-most expensive primary of the election cycle, just behind Bowman’s primary challenge in New York.

Just like Bowman, her fierce and continued advocacy for a ceasefire in Gaza and her anti-Israel views fueled the fire to oust her from Congress.

In a similar fashion to Bowman, Bush, despite the backing from progressive groups, top Congressional Democrats, and local community leaders, could not fend off Bell, who also, like Bush, became known during the protests in Ferguson, Missouri, just shy of a decade ago after the killing of an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown by police.

In the primary challenge, Bush tried to cast Bell as an avenue for corporate donors who were not from the community that elected him. Bell, who will most likely win the race in the blue district of Saint Louis, will be sworn into office in the U.S. House of Representatives in January 2025.

Since first being elected to office, Bush has continued to come under sharp criticism not just for her anti-Israel stance but came under fire for spending campaign funds in excess of $600,000 on personal security paid to her then-boyfriend, which led to a Congressional investigation. She also was an advocate for continuing the eviction moratorium, which allowed people to defer their rent and mortgage payments during the pandemic. She sat in protest on the front steps of the Capitol to continue the moratorium even after the pandemic had been declared over.

During her tenure in Congress, she really never successfully brought legislation before Congress that would aid her constituents in her Congressional District.

After losing to Bell in Tuesday’s primary, I guess Bush will have to “Suck It Up” because the taxpayer-funded gravy train has finally come to an end, and she will now have to experience the effects of the inflation that was caused by the government overspending that she voted for. Just like her constituents are suffering from each and every day.
