According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at around 3:30 p.m., members of the Oradell Police Department responded to an Ordell residence after they received a 911 Emergency Call reporting an unconscious and unresponsive man inside a home.

Responding Police Officers found evidence of possible drug use inside the residence. Oradell Police Officers notified Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force, and a joint investigation was launched.

During the course of a year-long investigation, by Detectives of the Bergen County Narcotics Task Force and the Ordell Police Department were able to trace the fatal dose of fentanyl that was sold to Mr. Kallensee by an individual, identified as Vashawn A. Davis, 28, of Paterson, New Jersey.

As a result of the investigation, on Monday, July 29, 2024, Davis was formally charged with first-degree Strict Liability for a Drug-Induced Death; and third-degree Distribution of Fentanyl.

After charging Davis, Detectives learned that Davis was already in custody for an unrelated criminal offense. On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Detectives served Davis with the warrant complaint at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Davis was processed on the charges and will remain detained in the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court.
