AKRON, OH.- A 29-year-old Akron, Ohio man learned his fate on Tuesday, that he will be spending the next seven and a half years in federal prison on narcotics and weapons charges.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney David Toepfer, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, Dion Dejournett, 29, of Akron, Ohio, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Bridget Meehan Brennan to 90 months in federal prison. Dejournett will also be subject to five years of supervised release following his release from prison and will also required to forfeit drug-related assets, including five firearms and over $6000 in cash.

Dejournett, prior to the sentencing, entered guilty pleas to two counts of Possession of Controlled Substances with the Intent to Distribute Fentanyl and Methamphetamine; and one count of Possession of Firearms in Furtherance of Drug Trafficking.

According to documents filed with the court in June 2023, the Akron Police Department executed a court-authorized search warrant on Dejournett’s apartment.

During the search, Detectives found methamphetamine and fentanyl throughout the master bedroom, hidden in a closet, drawers, as well as under the bed. Fentanyl was also found in plain sight on top of a dresser. Packaging materials, cutting agents, and a digital scale were also located.

Numerous firearms, including multiple pistols and a semi-automatic rifle, were located and seized. During Dejournett’s arrest, Akron Police Officers found additional fentanyl on his person. Laboratory testing confirmed that Detectives recovered and seized a total of 116.39 grams of substances containing fentanyl and 1460.51 grams of substances containing methamphetamine.
