16-Year-Old Bergen County Teen Charged In Connection With An Early Morning Gunpoint Robbery

RIVER EDGE, NJ.- A 16-year-old Bergen County, New Jersey teen remains jailed after being charged in connection with the predawn gunpoint robbery of River Edge, New Jersey gas station.
Police Respond
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at just around 4:45 a.m., members of the River Edge Police Department responded to an armed robbery at a gas station located on Hackensack Avenue in River Edge.
After arriving on the scene, Police Officers notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and Detectives from the Bergen County Special Investigations Squad responded. A joint investigation ensued.
A swift-moving investigation by Detectives of the Bergen County Special Investigations Squad and the River Edge Police Department disclosed that the suspect, who was wearing a mask and a hooded sweatshirt, walked up to an employee at the gas station, lifted up his sweatshirt and exposed a handgun he had tucked in his waistband.
Suspect Identified
The suspect demanded money from the cash register and money from the employee, fleeing with several hundred dollars. Detectives quickly identified the suspect as a teen from Bergen County, New Jersey.
    Accordingly, after making a positive identification, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, Detectives from the Bergen County Special Investigations Squad and the River Edge Police Department located the teen in Bergen County, took him into custody, and executed a court-authorized search warrant on his residence.
Charges Filed
After being taken into custody, Detectives formally charged the boy with juvenile delinquency for the charges of first-degree Armed Robbery; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and fourth-degree theft.
After being processed on the charges, the teen was placed into the custody of Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center, where he remains pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court Family Division in Hackensack, New Jersey.
