WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago reported that a Grand Jury sitting in Monmouth County, New Jersey, has returned an indictment against a 25-year-old Wall Township, New Jersey man for the brutal slaying of his girlfriend in a parking lot of a Wall Township apartment complex in May 2024.

Indictment Returned

The Grand Jury returned the indictment against Alex J. Williams on the charges of first-degree Murder; two counts of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

The indictment stems from an investigation that began on Thursday, May 23, 2024, when shortly before 9:30 a.m., members of the Wall Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a woman being attacked in a parking lot of the Glen Oaks Apartment Complex in the township.

Upon arrival, Police Officers found the woman, later identified as Brianna Greenwood, 29, of Wall Township suffering from multiple serious injuries. Ms. Greenwood was transported to an area hospital where she was treated and remained in critical condition. Despite life-saving measures by doctors, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased a week later.

During the initial investigation, by responding Police Officers, Williams was taken into custody after he was found sitting on the ground in the parking lot. Williams was originally charged with Attempted Murder and related Weapons offenses. Upon Ms. Greenwood succumbing to her injuries, the charges were upgraded to murder.

Investigation Determined

A subsequent investigation by Detectives of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wall Township Police Department determined that Williams, following accusing Ms.Greenwood of cheating on him, began to strike her with a machete in the face and arms. Detectives further determined that the murder occurred while Ms. Greenwood’s two young children witnessed the brutal attack.

Following initially being charged, Williams was remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, where he remains incarcerated since his arrest.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
