53-Year-Old Mays Landing Woman Sentenced To State Prison For Killing Her Husband On Christmas Day 2022

MAYS LANDING, NJ.- Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds reported on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Marylue Wigglesworth, 53, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and was sentenced by a Superior Court Judge to six years in New Jersey State Prison on a count of Manslaughter.
The Judge ordered the sentence to be subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Ms. Wigglesworth to serve 85% percent of her custodial term before becoming eligible for parole.
Ms. Wigglesworth had previously pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of her husband, David Wigglesworth, after an altercation inside their home on Christmas Day, 2022.
Allocution
During the plea, Ms. Wigglesworth stated on the record that before the shooting, she and her husband had engaged in an argument. During the argument, her husband, David, physically assaulted her and threatened her with a firearm that was kept in their bedroom.
Immediately following the threat, Ms.Wigglesworth shot her husband with the firearm used in the assault. Responding Police Officers and Detectives investigating the homicide documented significant and severe bruising to Ms. Wigglesworth’s body, consistent with being assaulted.
Since her 2022 Christmas Day arrest, Ms. Wigglesworth has been detained in the Atlantic County Justice Facility; following Tuesday’s sentencing, she will be transferred to the New Jersey State Department of Corrections to serve the remainder of her custodial term.
