22-Year-Old Atlantic City Man Pleads Guilty To Fatally Shooting 61-Year-Old Man In 2018

VENTNOR, NJ.- Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds reported, that on Thursday, August 22, 2024, Angelo Delgado, 22, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and entered a guilty plea to Felony Murder in connection with the shooting death of Sunil Edla, 61, of Ventnor, New Jersey.
In return for the guilty plea, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office will request that Delgado be sentenced to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison and require Delgado to serve 30 years before becoming eligible for parole.
   Delgado, at the time of the shooting homicide, was 16 years old, and following his arrest, the charges of murder, robbery, and weapons were waived from the juvenile court, and he was detained as an adult. Â
During the plea hearing, Delgado admitted that while trying to steal Mr. Edla’s motor vehicle, he shot and killed Edla in his driveway and then fled with Edla’s Subaru Forester.
Investigation
The charge and guilty plea stem from an incident that began when, on November 15, 2018, shortly after 8:00 p.m., members of the Ventnor City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a man, later identified as Mr. Edla, lying in a driveway on N. Nashville Avenue in Ventnor City.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found Mr. Edla in the driveway of 6 N. Nashville Avenue, unresponsive from multiple gunshot wounds. Edla was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Mr. Edla’s car, a 2002 Subaru Forester, missing from the scene. The vehicle was located the following day in the 1600 Block of Sewell Avenue in Atlantic City. Atlantic County authorities were quickly able to identify Delgado as the suspect and the individual responsible for the death of Mr. Edla. Delgado was taken into custody on the 1500 Block of Sewell Avenue without incident shortly after Police Officers located Mr. Edla’s vehicle.
Delgado has remained detained in the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Sentencing has been scheduled for September 2024, when Delgado will be transferred to the New Jersey State Department of Corrections to serve his 30 years.
