TABERNACLE, NJ.- On Thursday, August 22, 2024, a 42-year-old Lumberton, New Jersey man, who is employed as a teachers aide at Seneca High School in Tabernacle, New Jersey, was taken into custody and charged with utilizing a social media platform to have sexually explicit conversations with a student.

According To Prosecutor

According to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw, Michael Van Cline, 42, of Lumberton, utilized social media to entice a high school student to send nude photos to him and then suggested that the two meet to have a sexual encounter.

Van Cline was taken into custody on Thursday and jailed after being charged with third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He made his first appearance on Friday, August 23, 2024, in Burlington County Superior Court and was released on bail conditions pending future court proceedings.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office will prepare the case for possible indictment by a Burlington County Grand Jury.

The charge stems from an investigation that began after local authorities received information that Van Kline may have been inappropriately communicating electronically with a student.

Officials from the Lenape Regional High School District, including Seneca High School in Tabernacle, reported that Van Cline will be barred from school grounds or school functions.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
