GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ.- A 51-year-old Gloucester City, New Jersey man was taken into custody and charged in connection with the shooting of a woman who was sitting in her when she was struck by a stray bullet on Monday night in Gloucester City, New Jersey.

Charges Filed

According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, following an investigation by Detectives of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Gloucester City Police Department, Francisco Griffin, 51, of Gloucester City, was taken into custody and formally charged with second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Aggravated Assault; and fourth-degree Criminal Mischief.

Griffin was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings in Camden County Superior Court.

Investigation

The charges stem from an investigation that unfolded on Monday, August 26, 2024, when shortly before 11:00 p.m., members of the Gloucester City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a shooting on the 600 Block of Hunter Avenue in the city.

During the investigation, Detectives and responding Police Officers quickly determined that Griffin was involved in an argument with another individual when he pulled out a handgun and fired at the individual, missing him. The bullet that was fired from Griffin’s gun traveled into a nearby residence and struck an innocent bystander.

The innocent bystander has only been identified as a 67-year-old woman. The woman was immediately transported to Cooper University Hospital for treatment, where she remains in stable condition.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
