VINELAND, NJ.- Cumberland County authorities are continuing their investigation into what would have led a 22-year-old man to become so distraught that he would fatally shoot his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend and mother of his child before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life early Monday evening inside a Vineland, New Jersey residence.
According to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae, on Monday, August 26, 2024, shortly after 6:00 p.m., members of the Vineland Police Department responded to a report of shots being fired at a residence located on Roosevelt Boulevard in the City of Vineland.
Police Officers Discover
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, both suffering from apparent life-threatening gunshot wounds. The two were immediately airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased a short time later.
Prior Relationship
The initial investigation by responding Police Officers determined that the man shot the woman, and then the man turned the gun on himself, taking his own life. The two were not married but had been involved in a previous relationship.
The Prosecutor’s Office did not release the names of the man and woman due to privacy prohibitions with Domestic Violence laws, only identifying the woman as M.R. and the man as J.C.S.
In a report from NJ.com, the two were identified as Mary J. Rodriguez and Juan Correa.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office and the Vineland Police Department are conducting it.
