TRENTON, NJ.- Yesterday, a 37-year-old Morrisville, Pennsylvania, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with a shooting homicide that occurred on July 4, 2024, in the City of Trenton, that claimed the life of a 32-year-old Trenton, New Jersey man, and leaving a woman injured from a gunshot wound.

Charges Filed

According to Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Theresa L. Hilton, Rashawn Ford, 37, of Morrisville, Pennsylvania, has been formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; one count of first-degree Attempted Murder; two counts of second-degree Aggravated Assault; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.

Ford was apprehended during the morning hours on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office will file a motion to detain Ford pending trial.

The charges stem from an investigation that began on Thursday, July 4, 2024, when, at just around 11:30 p.m., members of the Trenton Police Department responded to the 800 Block of Stuyvesant Avenue in the City of Trenton after receiving multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting a shooting in progress.

Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Amir Williams, 32, of Trenton, New Jersey, on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his stomach and chest. Mr. Wiiliams was immediately transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where, despite emergency surgery, Mr. Williams tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

During the initial investigation, Police Officers were notified that a second victim, an adult woman, had arrived at the hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to her right hip.

Investigation Identifies Suspect

A subsequent investigation by Detectives of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department was able to identify Ford as the suspect and the individual responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Williams and injuring the woman. Charges were filed against Ford, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
