HUNTINGTON, W.VA.- On Monday, August 26, 2024, a 57-year-old Cabell County, West Virginia, man found out that he would be spending nearly 6 years in federal prison for participating in a methamphetamine and fentanyl distribution network.

According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson, Walter Alvin Clemeans, 57, of Culloden, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by a U.S. District Court Judge to five years and ten months, followed by three years of supervised release, for Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.

Clemeans had previously admitted to his part in a large-scale narcotics trafficking organization that was responsible for distributing large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl throughout the Southern District of West Virginia.

Documents Filed In District Court

According to documents filed in the court on October 23, 2023, a West Virginia Police Officer conducted a motor vehicle traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Clemeans on the 4200 Block of Ohio River Road in Huntington, West Virginia. Clemeans admitted that he placed approximately 97 grams of methamphetamine in a cup that was thrown from his vehicle during the traffic stop.

The Officer located and seized the methamphetamine that was on the ground outside Clemean’s vehicle.

Clemeans further admitted in court that investigators witnessed him acquiring the methamphetamine just before being pulled over, and he had arranged to pick up the methamphetamine during multiple calls that were intercepted by narcotics investigators.

Clemeans was among 27 individuals indicted in a 53-count indictment that charged the defendants with distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl transported from Detroit, Michigan, into Huntington and other surrounding locations throughout the Southern District of West Virginia.

Others Plead Guilty

Clemeans was also among 21 of the 27 defendants who have pleaded guilty in the case. One of the other 27 indicted individuals has pleaded guilty to a related offense in a separate indictment. The indictment against the remaining individuals remains pending and has been scheduled for trial.
