An Inmate At FCI Gilmer Has Been Indicted On Federal Assault Charges

CLARKSBURG, W.VA.- On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, a Federal Grand Jury for the Northern District of West Virginia returned an indictment against Mark Randall Harken, 42, an inmate at Federal Correctional Institution Gilmer in West Virginia.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Flowers, the grand jury returned the indictment charging Harken with four counts of Assualt of a Correctional Officer Resulting in Bodily Injury.
According to documents filed in the indictment, it is alleged that while imprisoned at Federal Correctional Institution Gilmer, Harken, during an altercation, caused bodily injury to four federal corrections officers.
If convicted, Harken faces a maximum of up to 20 years in prison on each count. A federal judge will determine the length of the sentence based on the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, considering aggravating and mitigating factors.
