Garfield Woman Charged With Aggravated Assault In Monday Night’s Motor Vehicle Crash

GARFIELD, NJ.- A 24-year-old Garfield, New Jersey woman was taken into custody and charged in connection with a late Monday night single motor vehicle crash that occurred in Garfield that left a pedestrian hospitalized with a severe injury to his leg.

     According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Monday, September 2, 2024, shortly before 10:30 p.m., members of the Garfield Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a serious motor vehicle crash on Outwater Lane near the intersection of Wilson Street in the City of Garfield.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a white Jeep operated by Ashley Elizabeth Ann Flores, 24, of Garfield. During the initial investigation, They determined that Flores had struck a parked, unoccupied motor vehicle. Following the collision, Flores attempted to flee the scene. While trying to leave the scene, Flores drove her Jeep into a man, pinning him between her car and the vehicle she struck.

     The man was immediately transported to an area hospital for treatment for a serious leg injury and remains hospitalized in stable condition. Flores was also transported to the hospital for evaluation and was released.

Initial Investigation Reveals

     Following the initial investigation, the Garfield Police Department notified the Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit about the circumstances surrounding the collision, and a joint investigation was launched.

     After the investigation, Detectives from the Prosecutor’s Office and the Garfield Police Department located Flores at her Garfield residence and took her into custody.

     Accordingly, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Flores was formally charged with second-degree Aggravated Assault; third-degree Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury; and fourth-degree Assault by Auto. Flores was also issued multiple motor vehicle summonses.

Jailed On Charges

     Following being processed on the charges, Flores was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
