Morgantown Man Sentenced To Prison For Possessing Over 500 Videos & Images Of Sexually Explicit Children

CLARKSBURG, W.VA.- A 67-year-old Morgantown, West Virginia man who fled to Florida to evade federal agents while investigating his online activities. That involved viewing, downloading, and possessing videos and images of nude and sexually explicit young boys, learned that he would be spending over six years in federal prison.

According to U.S. Assistant Attorney Jennifer Conklin, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, James Mansfield Davis, 67, of Morgantown, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh to 82 months in federal prison on a charge of Possession of Child Pornography.
According to documents filed in the court, while investigating online child exploitation, federal agents received a cyber tip about child pornography that was being shared online. During a subsequent investigation, law enforcement was able to trace the IP Address to Davis.
During a court-authorized search warrant of Davis’ residence, investigators seized several electronic devices and flash drives. A forensic examination of the devices uncovered 67 videos and 460 digital images depicting nude and sexually explicit young boys.
Before Davis could be taken into custody, he fled the jurisdiction to avoid prosecution and was later apprehended in the Orlando, Florida, area in July 2023.
