East Orange Man Charged With Multiple Sex Crimes & Robbery Offenses

ELIZABETH, NJ.- A 27-year-old East Orange, New Jersey man has been taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with a sexual assault and the robbery of two women late last month in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

     Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel reported on Monday that Jameel Alston, 27, has been formally charged with two counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; one count of second-degree Sexual Assault; two counts of first-degree Robbery; two counts of second-degree Burglary; two counts of third-degree Terroristic Threats; and multiple weapons offenses.

     The charges stem from a referral to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit from the Elizabeth Police Department after two women reported to Police that they were robbed and assaulted at two Elizabeth motels.

Reported To Police

      On August 28, 2024, a woman reported to the Police while staying at Motel 6 located in Elizabeth, she was sexually assaulted by an armed intruder. A short time later, a second woman came forward to report while staying at the Ritz motel, she was the victim of an armed robbery. Both women reported that the assailant was driving a white 2021 Hyundai Kona.

     Detectives of the Union County Special Victims Unit and the Elizabeth Police Department conducted a swift investigation and identified Alston as the perpetrator.

     On Monday, September 9, 2024, Alston was taken into custody in Irvington, New Jersey, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Union County Sheriff’s Department. Alston was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility pending his first appearance, which has been scheduled for Friday, September 13, 2024.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
